Dutchman and I were like, ‘Why haven’t we seen this beach before?!’
Right, we discovered Costa Costa Beach located in Makris Gialos on our last day in Kefalonia. Why? Because we were busy travelling around the island and basically ignored the most touristy beach areas of Kefalonia in Lassi.
But really, Kefalonia is a huge island and you need weeks to discover this place.
Because we holidayed end of June to early July, the beaches were not that very busy yet. 2nd week of July to early September is peak season and this means busy, full, hot, hot, hot and high prices. We always prefer to do our summer holiday during off peak season for the benefits we get out of it. Moreover, we do not have children in school (well, we do not have any!) so we have the flexibility.
Nevertheless, we were glad to have visited Makris Gialos Beach and spend our last afternoon in Costa Costa. We love it here. We initially thought of taking one of the nice beach huts with soft beds but then saw from the restaurant an empty lounge chair facing the beach. We contemplated and decided to take the lounge chair instead.
Dutchman and I managed to swim here whilst parking our stuff at the lounge sofa. I ordered a Greek Salad and some drinks—a Greek frappe and a Costa Costa smoothie. Then at the end of the day the DJ put on some local Greek hits and everyone was singing—in Greek!
The quick video:
I am not sure if the people in this beach bar and resort were local to the island or were local tourists? But this was perhaps one of the most local experiences we have come across in Kefalonia. Not your usual traditional touristy joint, but a very modern Greek beach bar.
Nice. We love it =)
